Roronoa Zoro

Roronoa Zoro, also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro, is the fighter of the Straw Hat Pirates, and one of their two swordsmen. Once a bounty hunter, he is the second member of Luffy's crew and the first to join him, doing so in the Romance Dawn Arc.

As a master of Santoryu, a style of fencing he created during his childhood training in the village of Shimotsuki, Zoro is one of the four most powerful fighters in the Straw Hats, along with Luffy, Sanji and Jinbe. His dream is to become the greatest swordsman in the world, in order to honor a promise he made to his deceased childhood friend Kuina.

In addition to his infamy as one of the straw hats and as a former bounty hunter, Zoro is also considered one of the twelve pirates called the "worst generation".

He currently has a bounty of 320,000,000 Berrys.

Apparence

Zoro is a muscular man of medium height with slightly tanned skin. He always carries his three swords with him, wrapped in a green haramaki on his right hip, which allows him to pull them easily with his left hand. Of the three swords he carries, he has always been seen carrying the Wado Ichimonji, while his other two swords have varied over time as they were destroyed and later replaced with better ones. Although his right hand is usually seen resting on them, he may also use this hand to remove his swords before sitting down. He has three identical gold earrings on his left earlobe. Zoro normally keeps a black bandana tied around his left bicep and ties it around his head when he is in serious combat with an opponent.

Zoro's body is covered with scars from his many battles, including the massive scar stretching from his left shoulder to his right hip that he acquired when he defeated the world's greatest swordsman, Dracule Mihawk , in Baratia . His other visible scars are the scars he inflicted on his ankles in a desperate attempt to free himself from Mr. 3 of Giant Candle Set service while trying to cut off his feet in Little Garden . After the ellipse, he gained another scar on his left eye, obtained by unknown means.

The other remarkable feature of Zoro is his green cropped hair, which Sanji often teases him by calling him "marimo" ( moss ball , moss head in dub Viz Manga and FUNimation) because of his resemblance.

Before the ellipse

Similar to most of his male teammates, Zoro has the same outfit in most of the series. Before the ellipse, he consistently wore black pants tucked into black boots, a plain white shirt with three buttons undone at the collar and his green haramaki. However, only Zoro's shirt varies from time to time in the arcs. During the Arlong Park Arc, he disembarked from Sanji's fishing boat and neglected to put on a shirt. After defeating most of the Arlong crew, he wore an open navy blue shirt decorated with light blue swirls that he stole from one of the fish-men. Since Zoro received his scar from Mihawk during the Baratie Arc before the Arlong Park Arc, Zoro wore visible bandages under his shirt.

During the Loguetown Arc, Zoro acquired Sandai Kitetsu and Yubashiri to replace the two conventional katana that were broken by Mihawk in the Baratie Arc.

During the Drum Island arc, Zoro was bundled up for the winter island, but later stripped naked after a foolish choice to swim in the icy waters of the island. He remained shirtless and shoeless at the beginning of the arc after getting lost from the Vogue Merry and remained unable to straighten up, until he stole a parka from a man in the Wapol army, which was a forest green hooded parka with a light green belt and white fur on the cuffs, hood and hem, as well as a pair of boots.

During the Arabasta Arc, he wore an orange keffiyeh with a gold chain on his head, a white long-sleeved coat with black lines all over it, and the bottom of his black pants was torn above his ankles.

During the Skypiea Arc, he wore his usual outfit at the beginning of the arc until he took it off after fighting a rainbow shark to save Tony Tony Chopper from being eaten. After that, he wore a long dark blue T-shirt and glasses tied either on his head or around his neck, which were later broken and thrown away.

During the Water 7 Arc, he wore his usual outfit until the end, where he wore a bright yellow zipperless jacket with a pocket flap closed on each side. He continued to wear this outfit throughout the Enies Lobby Arc .

At the Post-Enies Lobby Arc, he wore a black shirt with the Galley-La Company emblem in white.

At the end of the Thriller Bark Arc, he wore a grey open shirt. He also replaced Yubashiri , who had been rusted by Shu in the Enies Lobby Arc , with Shusui , who was entrusted to him by Ryuma's zombie brought to life by Brook's shadow .

During the Sabaody Archipelago Arc, he wore an open white shirt with red stripes.

During his stay on the island of Kuraigana, shortly after being sent there by Bartholomew Kuma, he wore an open dark blue shirt. As Zoro was badly injured when he arrived on the island, Perona treated him, so that bandages were all over his body.

After the ellipse

During and after the two-year ellipse, Zoro acquires a new scar over his left eye, which is now implied to be severely injured because it is still closed. His body grows larger, showing considerable muscle mass and his hair becomes shaggier when slicked back. Zoro now wears a long, dark green open cloak closed around his waist and is held up by a red belt, into which his three swords are now tucked, and his black bandana is tied around his left forearm. His coat exposes his bare chest, revealing his green haramaki underneath the coat. He has also become noticeably taller, as his height is similar to that of Robin .

During the Punk Arc Hazard, he wore a white fur coat for protection against the cold on the icy side of the Punk Hazard, which he drew from Brownbeard of the Centaur patrol unit.

During the Dressrosa Bow, he wore a black suit and a white shirt with the top button undone. He also wore black sunglasses and a fake white mustache as a disguise. His sunglasses were destroyed during his confrontation with Admiral Fujitora. Moreover, he threw away the moustache when his identity was exposed. After the battle against Don Quixote's pirates, Zoro took off his suit jacket and unbuttoned his shirt leaving his chest and scar exposed.

During the Arc of Zou , Zoro wore a dark blue t-shirt with his green coat and haramaki over long black pants and boots.

During the Arc of Wano , Zoro wore a white yukata with black details and a green cloud pattern on his bottom. He wore a dark green jittoku haori with a black sun mon over a khaki outfit and a zōri with a black bracelet. Zoro also styled his hair in the chonmage style. After agreeing to allow Shusui to return to Ryuma's grave and stay in Wano, Zoro received in exchange the legendary Enma blade , which was entrusted to him by Kozuki Hiyori , the daughter of the sword's original owner, the legendary Samurai, Kozuki Oden . During the raid on Onigashima, Zoro donned a black version of his normal coat and a new bright red belt. He also briefly wore a Beasts Piratesuniform created by Kinemon , before he and Luffy were discovered by the enemy pirates.

Non-canon

In movie 2 , after Trump's pirates stole the Vogue Merry with his clothes inside, he had to wear a black kimono from a bridal store. Then he changes his clothes to an open black jacket, white scarf and black pants like the ones he usually wears.

In Movie 3, he wears a blue open jacket with short sleeves, with a white line on the sleeves, black short pants and always wears his green haramaki. Also momentarily, he wears an extravagant penguin costume designed by Usopp.

In the movie 6 , he wears black pants and a brown shirt, which he later exchanges for an open white jacket.
